Absolutely Awesome Game Room

When Walt Disney lost rights to Oswald the Rabbit, he created a friendly, mischievous rodent originally named “Mortimer.” Of course, the name Mortimer was quickly changed to Mickey, and the rest is history. We’ve tried to honor the original name of Mickey Mouse with Mortimer’s Game Room, featuring billiards, air hockey, electronic darts, arcade-style Pop-A-Shot Basketball, Tropical Retreat Arcade upright loaded with nearly 900+ of your favorite classic games (FREE play), Atari sit-down driving/racing game "San Francisco Rush: The Rock" (FREE play), and over 100 posters and Disney memorabilia. Our goal is to provide a festive museum atmosphere where guests can experience a wide range of nostalgia from the historical to the hysterical. We think our game room could be the very best game room in...well anywhere!

Pool, Spa, and Lanai

We wanted to offer our guests FREE POOL HEAT so choosing an over-sized electric heat pump instead of gas was an easy decision. Not so easy was trying to understand how to manually turn the levers and valves and thermostats of some spas just to get the darn thing operational, so we insisted that our spa have a simple timer and all that manual nonsense must be automatic. We also offer our guests extra pool lounges and chairs so no one has to take turns soaking up that Florida sun. Professional landscaping surrounding the pool provides beauty and privacy for our guests.

2 Master Bedrooms

After a busy day (or two or three) of park-hopping, you need to wind down, to relax, and to sleep. As a matter of fact, it has been our experience that a good night's sleep is the single most important key to an enjoyable Florida vacation. Comfortable mattresses are usually not considered in vacation planning, but not so long ago our family was victim of some very miserable mattresses, and our Disney vacation suffered. We vowed we would never allow such discomfort to occur to guests in our home. To this end we have chosen to provide high-quality mattresses, relaxing furniture, and a lush tropical setting.

Dining and Kitchen

There are 2 distinct dining areas in Tropical Retreat: the dining room seats 6 adults comfortably and the breakfast nook seats 4. The tiled dining room table is ehnanced by tropical paintings of parrots and herons and a tropical Tiffany lamp. The nook table is lighted by another tropical Tiffany lamp and is adjacent to our 10-foot Phoenix palm tree and 8-foot bamboo palm overlooking the pool. The nook table is perfect for a separate children’s eating area or an evening card game. There are 2 barstools provided for counter chat with the cook.

The kitchen area is perfect for preparing a quick snack or a gourmet meal. Cooking utensils for the microwave, range top, and oven are provided. Dishware includes Cinnabar Fiestaware, poolside plasticware, and bar glasses. For our carb-concious guests, we provide a professional juicer and Extra-Large George Foreman Grill. There is even a Mickey Mouse waffle maker for the kid in all of us.

Great Room

We would like to think our great room is the most relaxing place in Emerald Island Resort. When we shopped for our sectional, our checklist included features like “high back”, “overstuffed”, “reclining love seat”, and “glove-soft fabric.” We searched through a lot of stores, catalogs, and websites until we found the perfect sectional—and our guest have given us feedback that our selection was successful. Of course, as long as you are relaxing, why not have some entertainment. We offer our guests a wonderful home theater system—just perfect for your favorite TV programs, DVD, or CD. We have provided an extensive library of DVD’s so there is a favorite for every member of your family. View our DVD library.

We have placed safety and security above all other considerations in furnishing our vacation home for your family. To provide a softer landing area for toddlers, we chose carpet rather than tile. We have replaced any glass coverings with plexiglass. For the convenience of the parents and the comfort of the younger set, we provide a Pack N Play, high chair, baby monitoring system, and InStep jogging stroller (made for jogging but perfect for park-hopping).
